Stimulate Love

What better way to build good karma - and a very free social life - than offering a piece of you to making our community a better place. Check out these volunteer opportunities and many more to come!

Big Brothers, Big Sisters of New York City

The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City is to provide mentors to all children who need caring adult role models--special friends who can help expand their horizons, realize their potential and enrich their futures--changing their lives. We seek to train community organizations in every neighborhood, empowering them to establish their own mentoring programs. To learn more about the program, attend one of the training sessions (announced regularly on BBBS’ website). BBBS has a particularly strong need for male volunteers so RecessionGirls, get out there and recruit some of those wonderful RecessionGuys!!!!

New York Cares

New York Cares' mission is to unite and enable caring New Yorkers to help people in need and improve our city through volunteer service and creative giving. An excellent resource for volunteers who want a flexible schedule. After an initial meeting you receive monthly listings of places to volunteer, which include working with kids, the elderly, fixing up neighborhoods and more. You can regularly volunteer with the same group or try different activities. It's a good way to meet other volunteers, too.

Mayor’s Volunteer Action Center
The Mayor’s Volunteer Center of New York City, a program of the Mayor’s Community Affairs Unit, brings together individuals, corporations, government agencies and nonprofit organizations to connect people and facilitate meaningful volunteer opportunities that improve the quality of life in New York City. Its goal is to make every New Yorker a volunteer. Throughout the year, the Mayor’s Volunteer Center promotes and organizes thousands of volunteer opportunities in partnership with community organizations and nonprofits in all five boroughs.

  1. Big Brothers Big Sisters also has a Workplace Mentoring Program - volunteers can meet as a group at their place of work, twice a month for 2 hours of pre-planned fun activities, mentoring and usually even a free snack! Contact BBBS to see if your workplace is currently sponsoring a program, or to find out how to set a new one up!
